Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Parking Update – Community Pod Construction
As parents are aware, work on the new Community Pod has begun, which has significantly reduced the amount of parking available within the school grounds. From tomorrow, construction activity will increase, and even fewer parking spaces will be available.
We kindly ask for your understanding and cooperation in keeping the school site as safe as possible. Please note: only parents and children with a valid Blue Badge are permitted to access the school site for parking.
If there is more than one adult in the car, parking within the school grounds is not necessary, as the second adult can bring or collect the children. Wherever possible, we ask that you park outside the school grounds.
Thank you for your support in helping us maintain safety during this period.
Important Update: Early School Closure Today at 12:30pm
Dear Parents and Carers,
Following yesterday’s message regarding the amber weather warning, we have continued to monitor the situation closely. Due to the increasingly severe forecast and rising concerns about heavy rain and potential flooding, we have made the decision to close the school after lunch today, at 12:30pm. Our priority is to ensure that all pupils and staff are able to travel home safely before conditions worsen.
Please make arrangements to collect your child at 12:30 pm. If your child usually walks home or travels independently, they must be picked up by an adult. You will need to let us know if it is a different adult to usual. If you are delayed or experiencing any difficulties with collection, please contact the school office as soon as possible so we can support you. Please use the open SeeSaw conversation as our phone lines are still having issues.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep our school community safe.
Kind regards, Lisa Jones Headteacher
October Newsletter
Dear parents and carers,
The nights are drawing in, and the leaves are falling. Autumn has certainly arrived. Let's hope for a crisp, sunny and fine half term break for everyone to enjoy.
Dosbarth Copr
We are excited to confirm that, following the half-term break, we will be opening our new class, Dosbarth Copr.
Dosbarth Copr will join with Aur, Arian and Efydd as part of our Special Needs Resource Base, and we look forward to welcoming our new additions to Greenhill.
Construction
Beginning on Monday, there will be significant construction works taking place on the school playground and the car park to the right of the building. This will impact access to class for children in Dosbarth Enfys (Miss Prothero) and Dosbarth Gwyrdd (Mrs McDonald and Miss Rees) as the path used to access these classes will be closed until the works are completed. Therefore, after half term children from these classes will need to be brought in and collected via the junior gate on the left of the building.
Nursery children will be dismissed at 12 o’clock via the main entrance of the school.
Once construction is complete, we will return to our usual processes.
Parking and drop-off for Blue Badge Holders
The construction process will also significantly impact the availability of parking spaces for holders of Blue Badges on the school grounds.
Therefore, following the half-term break, we will initiate a new process. As usual, the taxis will turn left when entering the school and wait outside the building. However, in the new system, parents of children in Copr, Efydd, Arian and Aur will also follow this route, and staff bring children to the cars. It is hoped that this system will allow for a steadier flow of traffic.
Parents and carers of children not in the named classes will be required to use the remaining parking spaces to the right of the school and collect children as usual.
We appreciate the assistance and patience of parents and carers as we introduce the new system.

It is vital we have your correct phone number as for most messages, this is our main means of communication. For longer messages, we use Seesaw so please make sure you have set up your account.

School Uniform
We expect all our children to wear school uniform. While we do not insist that clothes should have the school logo on, we do request that school colours (white, red, grey/black) are adhered to, including for PE, if they are wearing their PE kit to school.
The School Essentials Grant can assist with the cost of uniform, follow this link:
https://www.gov.wales/get-help-school-costs
As children are very active in the school day, all shoes need to be secured eg sandals with buckles, no flip-flops. Jewellery and false nails (with the exception of stud earrings and watches) are not permitted; smart watches are not permitted. Children are not permitted to wear make-up to school.
If there are issues relating to uniform, please make an appointment with Mrs. Gould and we can discuss these.
Thank you for your co-operation in this regard.
Summer Club
Our summer Food and Fun club was a huge success. A big thank you to all the staff who ran the club, and to the children who were so enthusiastic and well-behaved. We really hope we can run this again next year.

Dear parents and carers,
As we reach the final weeks of the school year, there's a real sense of pride and celebration in the air at Greenhill School. The children have worked hard this year — showing increasing levels of determination, creativity, kindness, and resilience in all they do. From exciting learning adventures in the classroom to sporting success, creative triumphs, and moments of real personal growth, it's been a joy to watch them flourish. Our school community has pulled together brilliantly, and we couldn’t be prouder of everything the children have achieved.
A Sad Farewell
Tomorrow will be the final day at Greenhill for Mrs Cheryl Kitchen who is off to enjoy her well-earned retirement. Mrs Kitchen has been a valued member of our team at Greenhill for 29 years and will be sorely missed by us all. However, she is planning to go on holiday in September, so we are also all very jealous of that!
Good luck and enjoy your retirement Mrs Kitchen from all at Greenhill Primary School.
The school would like to extend our thanks to parents and PTA members who have worked so hard this year and supported the school. From discos to Easter bonnet making their energy and creative spirit have helped to raise funds that directly benefit all the children. We are incredibly grateful for their support.
ESTYN
Our inspection report will be available from the ESTYN website in August.
Parking
We’d like to say thank you to parents and carers for your continued cooperation in helping us establish a safer and more organised system for parking in and around the school grounds. Your support in following the guidance has made a real difference to the safety of our pupils during busy drop-off and pick-up times. Just a reminder that only parents or children with a registered Blue Badge should be accessing the school car park and that speed must be limited to 5mph.
Also, we do hope everyone is enjoying the daily “Hi-Vis” fashion being modelled by our ever-stylish staff on patrol each morning and afternoon!
Food and Fun
There are very limited spaces left in the Food and Fun club we are hosting this summer. The club is open to children currently in Years 2 – 5 and will run from 9am-1pm between July 22nd and August 6th. Children will take part in activities and be provided with a snack and lunch.
Application forms for the remaining spaces can be collected from the school office.

Young Carers/Service Children
If your child is a young carer or a service child, please let us know as there are avenues of support that we can access to benefit them.
A young carer is defined as someone under 18 years old who provides regular, significant care or support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition, or substance misuse problem, and cannot cope without that support. This care can include practical tasks (like cooking, cleaning, or shopping), emotional support, and personal care (like helping with dressing or bathing.) A service child is one whose parent or carer serves in the Regular armed forces or as a reservist, or has previously done so.
Drills
I am sure you are all well aware the school schedules regular fire drills and the children are very used to the procedure to follow in these cases. However, sadly, schools are now advised to complete lockdown drills as well, so that children are aware of what to do in case of an event that may trigger a partial or complete school lockdown. We practised a lockdown drill recently and the children were excellent.
Snacks
It is important children stay hydrated, particularly in the summer months, so we encourage them to bring in bottles of water or sugar-free squash. We are currently fortunate enough to be receiving free fruit and vegetables from Tesco so there is no need to send in snacks for your child.
Dates for Your Diary
Summer term: April 28th – July 18th
May Day bank holiday: Monday May 5th
Half term break: 26th May – 30th May
We will also be taking one more INSET day which we have yet to confirm.
I wish you all a lovely Easter holiday.

World Book Day
We will be celebrating ‘World Book Day’ on Friday 14th March. Our theme this year is, ‘Cwtch up with a Book.’ Children are allowed to come to school in their comfy clothes and will be given opportunities to read for pleasure in class.
At the end of the day, there will be a book giveaway in the school hall. Please come along and choose some books to take home with you for free!
