Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
Dear parents and carers,
I hope you have all been enjoying this fine weather, it looks like it is going to continue into half-term, which is good news.
The final half-term of this academic year is going to be very busy. Dates have been shared in our previous newsletter, but it is worth sharing them again.
Sunny weather
It is important your child is dressed appropriately in the hot weather.
They should wear a hat, their shoulders should be covered and midriffs should not be exposed, that is, no strappy tops and no crop-tops.
While we do not insist that clothes should have the school logo on, we do request that school colours (white, red, grey/black) are adhered to, including for PE, if they are wearing their PE kit to school.
As children are very active in the school day, all shoes need to be secured eg sandals with buckles, no flip-flops.
Jewellery (with the exception of stud earrings) and false nails should not be worn.
Sunscreen should be applied before school.
Thank you for your co-operation in this regard.
Retirement
Mrs. Alisa Jones, Dosbarth Enfys’s teacher, is to retire at the end of this school year. Mrs. Jones has been a valued staff member of Greenhill for many years, and we wish her a fantastic last half-term!
Mrs. Davies
Many of you have asked after Mrs. Janet Davies, our school secretary. She has asked me to pass on her thanks for your kind thoughts and to say she has missed seeing you and the children over these past few months.

Dear parents and carers,
Welcome to our May newsletter. Recently the children have really enjoyed taking part in our Spanish-themed day, and our celebrations for the King’s coronation. I hope you enjoyed seeing the photos on SeeSaw.
Summer Trips
Each year at Greenhill Primary School we aim to offer our children a range of experiences to help them to grow and develop. During the summer term, we take the children on a ‘fun’ trip to, for example, a theme park. Unfortunately, as you are aware, in recent months there has been a considerable increase in the cost of living and this has had a significant impact on the prospective cost of such visits, due to substantial increases in fuel, coach hire and entry fees. Therefore, following discussions with staff and the school governing body, we have agreed that this year we will instead take the children to a local venue and subsidise the trip.
Soon, you will be receiving the permission forms for each visit, which are:
Friday 15th May: Dosbarth Enfys trip to Meadow Farm
Thursday 15th June: Picnic in the Park with Years 5 & 6 at Ynysangharad Park.
Monday 26th June: Picnic in the Park with Years 2, 3 and 4 at Ynysangharad Park.
Friday 7th July: Dosbarth Melyn Year 1s to Barry Island
Staff from Dosbarth Arian and Aur will contact families as soon as possible with details of their trips.
Attendance
Our Education Welfare Officer is assisting the school in monitoring attendance. It is important you let us know why your child is not in school on their first day of absence. If we do not receive a reason, the absence will be unauthorised If your child’s attendance is under 85%, absences will no longer be authorised unless accompanied by medical evidence. Unauthorised absences may result in a Fixed Penalty Notice.
Prime Drink
Children should only be drinking water, milk or sugar-free squash in school. Recently we have seen an increasing number of children bringing in Prime. From tomorrow, (Thursday May 11th), children will not be allowed to drink this in school.
