  • Greenhill Book Day fun

Tue 21 Mar 2023 Mrs Gould

What a fantastic day we've all had at Greenhill Book Day! We had so many fun book related activities to complete. Then our fantastic book swap, which was a brilliant opportunity to display our amazing home-school tasks to our families.

  • GREENHILL BOOK DAY - Tuesday 23rd of March

    Fri 17 Mar 2023 S Holloway

On Tuesday 21st of March we will hold our rearranged GREENHILL BOOK DAY! We will spend the day celebrating stories, poems, literature, poets and authors! Children will be allowed to come to school dressed as a character from a book or comic but this not an expectation. If you would rather your child wear their normal school clothes on the day that is fine.

We will be holding a book exchange at the end of the day. If you have any suitable, good quality childrens books at home which are no longer needed please bring them in and we will see if we can find them a new home.

  • Red Nose Day - Friday 17th March

    Thu 16 Mar 2023 S Holloway

Friday March 17th - Red Nose Day: Firstly, we would like to say a massive thank you to all of the parents, carers and children who supported our afternoon tea event. Thanks to you all and to Mrs Colwell's hard work to set it up we raised over £200 for Comic Relief (and had some lovely cakes too).

As you are aware tomorrow (Friday 17th of March) is Red Nose Day. We will be talking with the children about the importance of helping and supporting charities and doing some Red Nose Day activities throughout the day. Here's the exciting news for the children, they will be allowed to come to school in their pyjamas if they wish for a donation of £1 which will go to Comic Relief.

  • Rearranged Parents' Evening

    Fri 10 Mar 2023 S Holloway

As you are aware we needed to postpone one of our parents' evenings this week due to the snow. The new date for these appointments will be THURSDAY MARCH 23rd. Teachers will keep all appointment times the same as previously. If you need to contact your child's class teacher beforehand to rearrange your appointment (or to book one if you haven't already) please send them a message via SeeSaw.

Parents who requested telephone appointments will be contacted by class teachers to arrange new dates as these cannot all take place on the same date.

Thank you for you cooperation in this regard.

    February Newsletter

Gallwn gyda'n gilydd ... Together we can ...

    Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to our February newsletter. As always it has been a very busy term so far with lots happening! And there is lots more to come!

    Half term

Today is the final day of the half term for the children as all teaching and support staff will be attending Lewis School, Pengam tomorrow for staff training.

As always, we have worked our little learners hard this term and they deserve the break. We hope everyone has a safe and relaxing week and that the weather improves.

    Special Event Days

There are some special events coming up when we will be celebrating our heritage, the importance of reading, and helping others in need.

March 1st - St. David’s Day: we will be holding our Eisteddfod celebration in school and announcing the winners of the competitions. Children can come to school in clothes celebrating Wales. DON’T FORGET THE HOME TASK THAT HAS BE SHARED WITH ALL PARENTS ON SEESAW! We always get a fantastic response to these tasks and it is great to see such creativity!

March 10th - Greenhill Book Day: as World Book Day falls on the date of possible industrial action we will have a special Greenhill Book Day celebrating literature and authors. Following the success of our Halloween Costume, Christmas Jumper, and Toy exchanges, we will hold a book exchange on this day and will be setting ourselves a special reading challenge!

March 17th - Red Nose Day: every year the children are always really excited about this, so here we go … children will be allowed to come to school in their pyjamas if they wish for a donation of £1 which we go to Comic Relief.

    Extra Curricular Clubs

You may have noticed that we are starting up several new clubs for children across the school, including Film Club, Hockey, Football, Games Club, and Theatre Club. We would like to see as many participants as possible, and remind parents that once a child is committed to a club they are expected to maintain good attendance.

    Rags 2 Riches

We are collecting old and unwanted clothes to donate to charity. If you can donate please bring your bags to school on Tuesday 28th of February. This is a lovely way to declutter our houses, help those in need and raise funds for the school.

    Absences

It is vital that all absences are reported to the school as soon as possible. Please phone the office (01443 875521) or text the school mobile (07572 010246) to report absences and remember to give a specific reason for absence.

    Social Media

Unfortunately, due to technical issues beyond our control we have lost our long established facebook page. However, Mrs Gould has worked hard to create a new one and we would appreciate parents joining us. Find us by searching for the school on Facebook.

We are also on Twitter and can be found @Greenhill10 if you would like to follow us

    Parents/Carers Evenings

When we return to school we will send out the link for parents/carers to book a 10 minute session to discuss their child’s progression with class teachers. We will offer a range of dates and times and also the option for a phone appointment for those who have difficulties attending in person.

    Communication

Please ensure we are kept up-to-date with any changes of phone number or address.

SeeSaw is our preferred method of communication. It is essential that all parents and carers download the SeeSaw apps (Class and Family) so you can keep up to date with letters and messages. We have a SeeSaw help page in the Parents section of our website, www.greenhillprm.co.uk

As always, thank you all for your continued support, showing that together we can all strive for the best for our children.

As executive headteacher of Greenhill and Phillipstown Primary Schools, I usually divide my time equally between the two sites. However, this half-term it has been necessary for me to be based in Phillipstown for most of the time, whilst keeping in daily contact with Greenhill.  I would like to  thank Greenhill’s Deputy Headteacher, Mr. Stuart Holloway, and ALNCo, Mrs. Rachel Hughes, for their support in the day-to-day running of the school over the last few weeks, and I very much look forward to returning to Greenhill in the near future.

  • Eisteddfod Home Task

    Wed 15 Feb 2023 C Grist

    Greenhill Eisteddfod 2023

    Home task

For our school Eisteddfod this year we are inviting children to design and build something that they think represents ‘Habitat’. This could be anything from a landmark, landscape, buildings etc (The picture below gives some ideas)

Children may choose between the two options below:
Option 1: A 3D model using materials they have at home
Option 2: A digital model using Minecraft. All children have access to Minecraft for Education by using their Hwb login details. If they choose Minecraft, a photo or screen shot will need to be uploaded to Seesaw.

All entries need to be returned to school by Monday 27th February 2023

  • New Facebook Page

    Mon 30 Jan 2023 E Gould

We are excited to launch our new Facebook page ... unfortunately due to technical difficulties we lost our previous page.

    Find us @greenhillprm on Facebook.

We will use the page, as well as our website, Twitter and SeeSaw, to keep you up to date with letters and news.

IMPORTANT: Parents and carers will not be able to message the school via Facebook. It is vital that all parents and carers install the SeeSaw apps for this purpose (see Greenhillprm.co.uk for assistance in this regard).
